A bit of checking needed. More than one source is needed here to ensure accuracy. 1) Nicklaus was a bishop. (5) when you say san Nicklaus quickly, that can sound very much like santa claus- hence the name we use today) He did not climb down the chimney - he threw a bag of coins over the wall - and then repeated it twice more. The chimney idea probably came from when Odin Allfather was said to ride across the sky on Sleipner his eight legged horse, and would drop gifts through the smoke hole ( no chimneys then)

St. Nicholas was Greek bishop of Mira. The Turks did not begin to arrive in the region until 700 years later.
